“I swear I do not work for nor have any association with the Glendorn---except as a happy, rested, content guest. This was our second stay. We booked the Hideout, which is pretty rustic (no TV, no cell service) but a very cool quiet retreat for two of us, plus one very happy (tired) bulldog. The trails from the Hideout are amazing (and believe the brochure when it lists a trail as "difficult" or steep--they ain't kidding and this is not Kansas). The folks that work at the Glendorn---all of whom I again will refer to as "elves" as I did in my last review----are terrific. They are really a throw-back to an era where hospitality professionals tried to anticipate your every need---leftover turkey sandwiches in the fridge on T-giving evening (check), smores with a lit fire when you return from dinner (check), wood stacks to keep the fires burning (check), scheduled time with an expert skeet-shooter (check), fly reels waiting for your use (check), milkbones for the bulldog (check), and, yes, even two towels specifically to wipe a dog's dirty feet (check)...(check)(check)(check). I love the Glendorn and only wish it were closer.“

“Return To Glendorn

A hideout among the hemlock trees
And the maples of the Alleghenies...
Neither east or western sea,
Away from home, my choice to be.
Beyond iron gates, winds a read
To my lady fair...
Her paths littered with ferns and chipmunks,
and even the occasional bear.
Her valleys lie peaceful...
always at ease....
Waiting for nothing but visits from old friends
and welcoming them in the arms of a gentle breeze
A little rustic.... a little smooth, As only understood by few.
Youth has gone but time left her alone
She seems to have always been here
As timeless as her streams and stone.
Cool mountain air and a hint
of campfire smoke
Soft lovely rains
upon a gathering of visiting folk
You'll find streams brimming with fighting trout
And stunning mountain views as you wander about
The fair is straight from France
that you will never again do without.
I don't always come here
Since I've only known her a short time
But I've dreamed of her since the first
And she's never left my mind.
And of all the places I know
And of all the places I adore,
I may visit all of them once
But I will return to Glendorn.“

“There is no way to adequately describe Glendorn---it is a 5 star hotel, a hunting lodge, a family retreat, a place where magic happens (like having a fire set in the firepit before you return from dinner complete with a layout of smores and the sticks!).“
