Today's social hub, The Big House, was built in 1929 and looks much as it did in then, with mostly original furnishings, family heirlooms, flickering candlelight from wrought-iron chandeliers, and lustrous first-growth redwood paneling. The Big House includes the lodge's dining room, four elegantly appointed guest bedrooms, billiards room, sun porch and the kitchen.
Twelve enchanting guest cabins are secluded in the woodlands that surround the lodge. Constructed by the Dorn's in the 1930s and ‘40s for visiting family and friends, many of the cabins are reached by charming footbridges over rushing streams. These peaceful woody havens are perfect for couples and families and decorated in vintage fashion. Prominent guests have included Ella Fitzgerald, Art Buchwald, Louis Armstrong, and Victor Borge.
Guests are often seen darting off to Lake Bondieu, or parts of our 3.2 miles of stocked trout stream with fly-rods in hand, shooting on our expanded skeet and trap facility, hiking or mountain biking along the 28 miles of trails on property or just relaxing in front of one of our 43 wood- burning fireplaces on property.
