Winter Activities

Glendorn offers year-round activities for guests, but many prefer to visit in the winter when our scenic Northwest Pennsylvania resort turns into a winter wonderland. Below, explore a selection of our most popular activities and attractions.

Cross Country Skiing

Our vast hiking trail system transforms into groomed cross-country skiing trails with terrain suited for all levels of skiers where you may ski on groomed trails or cut your own tracks through the woods.

We offer guests complimentary use of cross country ski equipment including skis, poles and boots. For beginners, we offer a short introductory lesson from one of our activities staff on safety and technique upon request.

Within the nearby Allegheny National Forest there are hundreds of miles of ski trails for the cross-country skier along with The Allegheny State Park with its Art Roscoe Ski Center where skiers of all levels can find groomed Nordic and Skate ski trails.

Snowshoeing

Glendorn and its trail system make a great place to explore. You can use a complimentary pair of our snowshoes and hike to our favorite winter snowshoe destination, the Hideout. From the Hideout, you may choose any one of our trails to meander your way back to your private cabin or suite.

Trap, Skeet & Compact Sporting Clays

Our comfortable trap house includes a restroom, fireplace, built-in grill, redwood gun racks and gun cleaning station will make everyone comfortable even if you’re just there to watch your friends “break some clay” or talk about the days shoot.

Beginner, intermediate and Advanced shooting lessons are available at separate times, though some experienced guest shooters pick up on small hints while sitting in on the orientation with their partners and friends.

Everyone over the age of 12 years-old is welcome to participate in Glendorn’s shooting sports program no matter what your experience is, even if you’ve never held a gun before.  We use Beretta shotguns, small bore guns for low to no recoil and individual one-on-one instruction while you are on station for customized coaching.  Firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection are provided onsite.

Ice Fishing

Enjoy a winter day on one of our lakes with Glendorn’s ice fishing guides in the months of January or February. Once on the ice, Glendorn’s guides will show you how to set tip ups and jig for trout and various pan fish species. That evening, you can enjoy a gourmet fish dinner prepared with what you caught that day!

Sledding

Sleds are provided for your use to slide down one of our many smaller hills or you can brave the snow-covered road and steer your way down the Hideout Hill.

Downhill Skiing

Combine downhill skiing and luxurious accommodations for a memorable skiing adventure. Ski HoliMont or Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY are approximately a 30-minute drive from the lodge.

Curling

Skipper Lake transforms into our own curling sheet, complete with curling equipment including lighting. You can then warm up inside the Skipper Lake Schoolhouse and, of course, enjoy Glendorn’s gourmet hot chocolate upon request.

Ice Skating

Glendorn hosts Ice Skating at Skipper Lake. Take a turn around the lake, followed by a visit to our warming Schoolhouse for some homemade hot chocolate or s’mores upon request. Ice skates are available complimentary for guests at Skipper Lake Boat House.
